I saw this survey over at Faith-Family-Friends and thought I would give it a go. It's a good way to introduce myself and a little about what I believe. Of course, the way we act and dress means nothing without faith in Jesus. I want to live a life that reflects His goodness to me and how I respond to that. So here goes.
Do you wear makeup? In this picture I am but for the most part no. I have pretty healthy skin so thankfully I don't need much even on special occasions. Applying makeup correctly is very important and many otherwise lovely ladies can use a heavy hand, if you know what I mean. I don't think it is a right or wrong thing, but a good taste and bad taste thing.
Do you wear a head covering? I used to. I still have many in my drawer. The reason I stopped is because it was drawing too much attention to myself. It wasn't the good, witness for Christ type either. It got very unpleasant and my husband decided that it had to stop. Modesty for me is more than just covering my body properly, which has never been much of an issue. A very important old fashioned rule my mother taught me was that a lady should not draw too much attention to herself. Of course it would have been very different if we lived in an area where more women covered.
Do you wear dresses? Yes! I have some beautiful dresses; some from the store, some I made, (I love to sew) and some from Lilies of the Field. They do amazing work. I also wear skirts and tops and even snagged a cute pair of culottes once.
Do you wear a modesty vest over your dresses or a cape dress? No. I prefer to wear a matching sweater, a light pretty jacket, or a blazer with my dresses and skirts. For the picture above, when I left the house I put on a light blue, knee length raincoat and a colorful scarf.
Do you wear stockings or knee socks for extra modesty? Not usually. I do wear pantyhose sometimes.
Do you wear open toed shoes? Only all summer! I'm a flip flop gal!
Do you sleep in your headcovering? When I used to wear a headcovering, no, I did not sleep in it.
Do you wear modest swimwear? I'm super modest here. I will not wear any kind of bathing suit in public.
Jewelry? I have some beautiful pieces given to me by my husband. I also have rings from my grandmother, my father, and my mother. I treasure them. I don't wear anything on a daily basis but my wedding ring.
Do you have a TV? Yes.
Do you have worldly magazines and books in your home? Does worldly mean secular? If so, yes. Offensive? I don't think so. I have very high, strict standards about what comes into our home. I feel we filter out most of the world's moral pollution and live in a clean and safe godly home. One confession though. I love mystery books, especially the kind where the woman who solves them cooks or does crafts. I can't say they are beneficial spiritually, but certainly entertaining.
Do your children have worldly toys and interests? Oh my, don't get me started. They are grown now but when they were children we did our best and feel God honored our efforts. Unfortunately, we came from families who did not care for the way we raised our children. They thought we were too strict and sheltered them from the "real" world. Some of them went to great lengths to what amounts as corrupting them. God is faithful though. They have grown to be wonderful and discerning people. People who have supportive families have been given a real gift.
Anyone is welcome to join in on this survey. I would love to hear your answers so please leave a comment with a link to your blog. Have a blessed day!
