Fixing Up the Garage - Before and After

Before
Though the house we moved into is lovely, it is smaller than our old one and has a one car garage. We have an immense backyard with room for a veggie garden next spring so that was good.

Before
We are only planning on living here for a few years until we find a place to buy. We are hoping to get a home on a few acres so we can have chickens, goats, and bees. My husband wants to do some beekeeping and make cheese.

Before
But for the time being I want to make our little nest a happy and functional one so we decided to make the garage into a type of family/craft room. It looked terrible after the move. We are keeping some things packed but instead of storing everything for $99.00 a month, we decided to keep the car in the driveway and store it all in the garage. Then we can save almost $1200.00 a year and have another room!

Before
We chose to have our loveseat and two armchairs in our living room and leave the sofa in the garage. But what to do with it? Should we leave it like this with the garbage can right next to it? No way!

After
The first thing I did was set up a neat and functional ironing corner for clothes and crafts. The vacuum is also there. My last cover got glue or something on it so I had to replace it. The new one is a Laura Ashley I found at HomeGoods. It is reversible and so pretty!

After
I have two sideboards that stayed out here. We put them side by side and now they can hold craft supplies, games, and other stuff. The top I can use to fold clothes. The two racks to hang shirts and skirts have plenty of room and the shelf above has all our Christmas goodies.  We moved that orange cord hanging down after I took the picture! My husband put a stereo on the lower shelf so we can listen to hymns or classical music.

Instead of putting small boxes in the china cabinet I put my fabric, a few craft supplies, and a quilt waiting to be finished.

After
I also hung some of my cross stitches over the now uncovered sofa and scattered some extra pictures and lamps about.

After
I think it turned out great. My husband is so happy with it he keeps coming up with additional ideas. He found a cord to plug in all the lamps with the one touch switch. He just showed it to me and it looks great. Now you can switch the lighting between pure function and family room fun.

And I am sure that he who began a good work in you will complete it. - Philippians 1:6
